Meet us at EuroCIS 2025 and discover how to put the brakes on retail shrinkage

Come and Talk to Us at Hall 10 Booth B35

AI is evolving at a fast pace, and the retail industry is employing the technology on multiple fronts. From ensuring a smooth shopping experience to replenishing stocks in a timely fashion, retail stores are discovering the many efficiencies that AI can offer.

SAI Group’s visual AI solution for retail surveillance

SAI Group’s Visual AI solution leverages machine vision technologies to analyze video feeds from existing CCTV cameras, providing valuable insights for loss prevention. Our comprehensive solution addresses several key retail challenges such as:

  • Assist customers: Low-friction shopping, which is centred around self-help is highly preferred by customers as well as retail stores. However, when customers go about on their own with shopping, genuine mistakes do happen — instances such as erroneous scanning of products, or items that were missed while scanning. When such incidents occur, our visual AI solution can:
    • Nudge the customer to do self-correction, rather than wait for assistance from the retail staff.
    • Discreetly inform the store staff about the anomaly, giving them a genuine opportunity to intervene and address the issue quickly.
  • Assist store staff: Store staff typically split their time between replenishing stocks of popular items and assisting customers who may require help with correcting product scanning. In such situations, SAI Group’s visual AI solution sends notifications to the store staff on the hand-held terminals, enabling them to assist customers in a timely manner.
  • Detect aisle theft: Our visual AI solution can identify suspicious customer activity in the aisles – such as placing an expensive item into personal clothing or bag as opposed to the shopping cart.
  • Detect checkout fraud: SAI Group’s visual AI solution can detect and report when a customer:
    • Deliberately weighs lower priced products.
    • Fails to scan a few items from the cart or when the customer moves items over the scanner in such a way that they are not scanned.
    • Walks out without finalizing the payment for the items scanned.
  • Enable colleague safety: Our visual AI solution can identify any acts of violence and send the incident to the retailers Security Operations Centre to take further action.
  • Report retail crime: Store staff need to review hours of CCTV footage to extract the relevant video footage that can be used as evidence while reporting shoplifting. SAI Group’s Visual AI platform automatically detects shoplifting incidents, and extracts and stores legally admissible CCTV footage that can be submitted to the police as evidence.
  • Report operational issues: : CCTV surveillance is good only when they are up and running all the time. Our visual AI solution quickly identifies any disruption or downtime and reports the same to stores and third parties responsible for servicing and operations, enabling swift resolution of such issues.
